Saturday's Sailing and Fun at the Leukemia Cup Regatta
 The third annual Leukemia Cup at River Dunes saw some strong winds for the racing on Saturday, making for an exciting day for the captains.      Once the races were over, captains and guests enjoyed a fabulous Shoreside Celebration under a tent. Over 325 guests enjoyed silent and live auctions, cocktails, dinner catered by the Chelsea from New Bern, NC, and dancing to the soul sounds of Papa Sol from Atlanta, GA. It was an unforgettable evening of fund-raising for a worthy cause.

 In its May issue, Boat US Magazine named the New Bern/Oriental area as one of Top Ten Boating Towns to Retire + Play + Thrive. We already knew that, but we're thrilled that editors of a national boating magazine recognized our ideal location for all types of water activities. Leukemia Cup Weekend Starts with a Friday Night Bash
 The 2013 Leukemia Cup Regatta at River Dunes got underway Friday evening with the Captain's Reception, held in the Harbor Club. Tempermental weather during the day on Friday caused the event to be moved inside, but certainly didn't dampen the spirits of all the participants.  The event was generously hosted by Watermark Homes of North Carolina and The Red Rickshaw, who provided guests with the opportunity to "walk the red carpet" in support of blood cancer research and treatment.  Captains and guests enjoyed heavy hors d'oeuvres and a refreshing signature drink, lemonade with vodka and blueberries.   Guests also had the opportunity to preview the items available for Saturday evening's Silent and Live Auction. Photos from Saturday's racing are posted on Facebook!

New Bikes for New Neighbors
 In keeping with our green practices at River Dunes, we give our owners a set of cruising bicycles when they move into their new homes. The preferred method of transportation in our community is foot-power, followed by pedals and electric golf carts. This past week, the Fitzpatricks received their new "wheels" as a welcome home gift. We look forward to seeing them cruising around the harbor very soon!

Memorial Day at River Dunes was Unforgettable!
 It was a great weekend for a party at River Dunes. The weather was beautiful, the friends were gathered, and the luau was on!  The marina was full of boats, both members and transients, and the cottages were full of weekend guests. The Harbor Club Pool opened officially for the season with over 85 members and guests enjoying a poolside luau on Saturday evening. Chef Robert cooked a pig on the grill, served with tropical delicacies, including grilled fresh mahi mahi, shrimp, watermelon salad, and sweet potato poi. It was a fun-filled night under the stars, and the start of a season full of exciting events at River Dunes Harbor Club! Keep an eye on the blog and events calendar for many more good things to come.

The 2013 Leukemia Cup Regatta
 It's not too late to register your boat for a weekend of racing, great food and fun - all for a wonderful cause! This year's Leukemia Cup Regatta at River Dunes will kick-off on Friday evening with a Captain's Reception. The first races will be held on Saturday, and Saturday evening will feature the always popular Shoreside Celebration, catered by the Chelsea. Dancing to the sounds of "Papa Sol" a fantastic band from Raleigh will follow dinner. There will be more racing on Sunday, and the weekend will wrap up with a Sunday lunch and Awards Ceremony. Spring Fling and River-Rama
 The Second Annual River Dunes Spring Fling Weekend and River-Rama came along just in time to welcome warm weather to coastal North Carolina. About 20 property owners, Harbor Club members and guests gathered to celebrate the kick-off of boating season. The weekend began with a Friday evening family style Shrimp-a-Roo on the Harbor Club Lawn.    On Saturday morning, the River-Rama began on Broad Creek with 5 boats rafting up for some fun on the water. "Miss Grace" joined the raft up and did a great job serving as the "food truck", providing drinks and lunch service.    A quick shower came up just after lunch, causing a quick return to the docks; but everyone quickly settled in poolside for the afternoon. Later that evening, a prime rib dinner, followed by dancing capped off the weekend's festivities. Hope to see everyone again next year for one of River Dunes favorite weekends!

Derby Day was a Smashing Success
 Derby Day at the Harbor Club may have been rainy, but everyone had a good time watching the Run for the Roses and enjoying the mint juleps and Kentucky-themed hors d'oeuvres.   Dining Services Manage Kee and the Harbor Club staff got very creative with all the decorations.  Congratulations to Bill and Dianne Jayne who won Most Dapper and Best Hat!

River Dunes Burgee on the Move
 You never know where a group from River Dunes might turn up! This past weekend, a group of slip owners travelled up the river from Grace Harbor to New Bern for a rendezvous. All reports are that they had a great time, enjoyed some wonderful meals, and are looking forward to lots more good times on the water this summer. River Dunes is in a great location for many wonderful day trips by boat, including New Bern, Beaufort, Ocracoke, Shackelford Banks, and Morehead City.

Marina Happenings
 The marina at River Dunes has been busy, busy the past few weeks. In addition to the annual stream of transients heading back home from the Bahamas and Florida, there have been several new additions to our growing group of slip holders. We were also happy to welcome one of our owners who made the trip on his new Shannon power cruiser up from Florida to its new home in Grace Harbor.  This past weekend, Harbor Manager Rich Beliveau arranged for Vessel Safety Inspections by the local US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Although the day was overcast and chilly, over 15 boats participated in the free service.

Free Coast Guard Boat Safety Inspections
 Saturday, April 20th, the US Coast Guard Auxiliary will be offering free vessel safety inspections at River Dunes' Grace Harbor. Anyone may participate; however, a time must be scheduled in advance. Please call River Dunes Harbor Manager, Rich Beliveau, at 252-249-4908 or 800-348-7618 or email rich@riverdunes.com to reserve a time. The Harbor Club will be open for lunch from 11:00 to 2:00 for those who have scheduled an inspection.

Welcome our New Construction Manager!
 Please join us in welcoming Alex Anderson as our new construction manager at River Dunes. Alex grew up in Greensboro, NC, and has a degree from North Carolina State University (yes, he is a Wolfpack fan). He comes to River Dunes from Bald Head Island, where he worked for the developer for seven years as General Contractor and Project Manager. Alex will be continuing the development process at River Dunes and working on facility and amenity construction. His temporary office space is just across from the Landing, though he is usually found out and about in the community. Welcome aboard, Alex!
