River Dunes Officially Opens Tennis Courts
River Dunes owners celebrated the official opening of two new Har-tru tennis courts today with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The owners jointly cut the ribbon and toasted the first of many good times to be had!
The group also enjoyed champagne and strawberries in honor of the Wimbledon finals this weekend.
One of the owners gave a brief run-down on the proper shoes and etiquette for playing on clay. All in all, it was a great day for tennis in England and at River Dunes.
Welcome Home to River Dunes, Bad Influence!
Friday afternoon, a small but enthusiastic group gathered on C Dock to welcome a new boat - Bad Influence - to her home at River Dunes. The captain brought her in flawlessly, and a little celebratory champagne was enjoyed by all as she settled into her new home.

Leukemia Cup Regatta is Underway at River Dunes
The fourth annual Leukemia Cup Regatta got off to a flawless start on Friday evening with the Captain's Reception. Registered boat captains, sponsors and special guests enjoyed heavy hors d'oeuvres, sponsored by Watermark Custom Homes of North Carolina and The Red Rickshaw. Live music was provided by Bob Laverty. The evening was perfect for a poolside celebration, and guests enjoyed themselves as they prepared for the racing on Saturday.
Saturday morning, events kicked off with a breakfast, followed by Skipper's Meeting and the First Warning Signal at noon. In the meantime, the auction committee was hard at work preparing for the live and silent auctions, part of the Saturday evening Shoreside Celebration that featured dinner by the Chelsea and dancing to the sounds of Black and Blue.
Business After Hours and Award Presentation
In spite of a thunderstorm that popped up unexpectedly and moved the festivities indoors, Business After Hours at River Dunes drew a good crowd of local business owners and residents. The event was co-sponsored by the Pamlico Chamber of Commerce, Beasley Broadcasting and River Dunes. A raffle and silent auction held during the event benefitted the Pamlico County Historical Association.
Beasley Broadcasting gave a presentation on digital marketing for local business owners.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 2014 "Best Boating Community" Award to River Dunes by Margie Casey of RealEstateScorecard.com. River Dunes owners and staff were on hand to accept the award, which is based largely on input from property owners. Casey gave River Dunes owners high praise for their community outreach and involvement.
Tennis Courts Nearing Completion!
The new Har-tru tennis courts at River Dunes will be ready for play on Memorial Day Weekend! We'll be Cutting the Ribbon to mark the official opening at 2:00 on Saturday, May 24th. Join us as we celebrate another amenity added to the community. Dust off those racquets for some Round Robins!
Fire Sub-Station Work Nearing Completion
The pace of work on the new sub-station for SE Pamlico VFD, located on Orchard Creek Road, has stepped up over the past few weeks. It won't be long now before the bays will be ready for equipment. The new sub-station will provide all the residents of the community of Pamlico and surrounding areas with emergency fire and rescue services. More photos will follow as the structure draws closer to completion.
Fire Station Work Continues
Work continues on the SE Pamlico VFD Sub-Station, located on Orchard Creek Road. The new sub-station will provide fire and emergency services to all the residents of the Orchard Creek and Pamlico neighborhoods. With the continuation of good weather, completion of the construction should occur in a few weeks. More photos will follow as the work continues.
Tennis Time is Getting Closer!
Warm spring weather allows the tennis court crew to make progress on the two Har-tru courts going in at River Dunes. The new courts are located just down the street from the Harbor Club. Club members - get those racquets ready! It won't be long before the play will begin.
Two Boat Shows this Weekend for River Dunes!

2014 Leukemia Cup Regatta Kick-Off at River Dunes
The 2014 Leukemia Cup Regatta at River Dunes kicked off with a reception at the Harbor Club featuring honored guests, the Delany family with their 18 month old daughter, a leukemia survivor.
Cindy Campbell, Chairman of the Regatta at River Dunes, and Emily Blust and of the NC Leukemia and Lyphoma Society were on hand to talk about the research and patient services funded by the Regatta.Over 75 guests enjoyed refreshments as they learned how to register their boats for this year's Regatta, to be held June 6-8.
River Dunes President Ed Mitchell welcomed guests and announced this year's fund-raising goal of $140,000.
The highlight of the evening was honored guest speaker, Gary Jobson, five-time America's Cup sailor and commentator for ESPN, himself a blood cancer survivor. Gary showed a video and gave a fascinating recount of this year's America's Cup race.

Fire Station going up!
The new substation for Southeast Pamlico Volunteer Fire Department, located on Orchard Creek Road just across from River Dunes main entrance, is making headway. With the weather cooperating, walls are going up, and the building is beginning to take shape. The substation with serve the residents of the town of Pamlico and nearby communities. More construction photos will follow as the station takes shape.
