General Store and Provision Company Underway in Harbor Village
The construction of the newest addition to River Dunes Harbor Village is underway! The General Store and Provision Company is being framed this week, and mild winter weather has provided an opportunity for things to move along at a good pace. The General Store will be the first of several commercial structures that will provide services for residents, boaters and guests in the community. ARK Development of North Carolina is the contractor for the project, and architectural design services are provided by Historical Concepts of Atlanta, GA.
Breaking Ground on the Harbor Village General Store
It's an exciting time at River Dunes as the construction of the General Store and Provision Company is now underway. The 1800 square foot facility, located just across Harborside Road from the Harbor Club, will add retail space to the current Harbor Village. Future structures planned for the Harbor Village include a post office and workout facility, a café/bakery that will offer casual indoor and outdoor dining, and a performing arts ampitheater.
River Dunes selected as one of Top 25 Marinas in North America
Oriental, NC December 16, 2014 The December issue of Power and Motoryacht Magazine featured their list of the top 25 marinas in North America that included only two North Carolina destinations. River Dunes, located minutes from the Intracoastal Waterway near Oriental NC, was selected by the editors as one of the top 25. The magazine reached out to its readers, friends on social media and Marinalife, its partner in cruising, to create the list of the best places to tie up in North America, based on actual boaters experiences.
Also rated a five-star marina by the readers of ActiveCaptain.com and voted 2013 Best Customer Service Marina by Marinalife readers, River Dunes Marina and Harbor Club are located at Mile Marker 173, just off the ICW, convenient to the Outer Banks and Crystal Coast of North Carolina.
The state-of-the-art marina offers floating docks within a protected 28 acre inland basin harbor with high speed fuel and other conveniences. Transient and leased slips are available.
World-class harbor amenities include a private club with casual and fine dining, pool, spas, Har-tru tennis courts, fitness facility, bicycles, canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, guest boater facilities with steam showers and laundry, and harborside guest cottages.
An un-named reader who provided an endorsement for River Dunes inclusion in the list stated, I have visited most marinas between Annapolis and Hilton Head, and this marina is the crown jewel.

2014 Property Owners Annual Homecoming Weekend
Mother Nature graced us with a beautiful sunny weekend for the festivities of the River Dunes Property Owners Association Homecoming Weekend and Annual Meeting. Owners enjoyed the warm weather on the deck of the Ura's waterfront home at a Welcome Picnic that kicked off the weekend's activities.
Saturday morning started bright and early with a tennis round robin, followed by a light breakfast on the Harbor Club Sun Porch. At 10:00, the Annual POA meeting was called to order and featured introductions, a recap of 2013 highlights and discussion of on-going and up-coming POA projects. Immediately following the meeting, lunch was served al fresco at the Duttry home in the Oyster Point neighborhood.
One of the highlights of the weekend was a presentation by Chief Al Spruill and SW Pamlico VFD members at the newly constructed Fire Sub-Station on Orchard Creek Road, just across from the entrance to River Dunes. Six River Dunes residents have already volunteered to serve with the VFD, a great start to our own Firefighter of the Month calendar!
Saturday afternoon activities included clay shooting on the riverside, an art show, rides on our restored 1948 Core Sounder "Miss Grace", and, a surprise activity - tours of the property by helicopter.
One of our owners took this amazing shot of the Harbor Club from the air! Thanks for sharing it.
Another highlight of the weekend was a Wine and Cheese, held at the Wild home and sponsored by The Red Rickshaw and Watermark Custom Homes of NC.
On Sunday morning, the weekend wrapped up with breakfast at the Harbor Club, a simple non-denominational Chapel service, and mimosas at the Huffines home, sponsored by Cindy Huffines Interior Design - complete with River Dunes frosted sugar cookies!
A good time was had by all this weekend; and it's hard to imagine how we'll top it next year. But we promise to be back next fall with more great food, good times, and fond memories made with new and old friends.
