Oriental Recognized as a Great Place to Live
Here at River Dunes, we're always excited when someone else recognizes the great way of life we have in coastal North Carolina. Recently, Southeast Discovery published an article that describes on our next-door neighbor, Oriental (photo above). They discovered (we already knew...) that the village of Oriental is an ideal place to live - mild climate, year-round boating and sailing, friendly folks, shopping and dining, a thriving arts community, and a laid-back waterfront lifestyle.
We're happy and proud to be part of the Oriental community. It is a wonderful place to live, and we'd like to share with you all the things that make it special. We're delighted to offer you a standing invitation to visit River Dunes, stay in one of our harborside guest cottages, and experience for yourself how good life can be on the coast.

Second Annual Clays and Cuisine Weekend
Join us at River Dunes February 18 and 19 for one of our favorite annual weekends - Clays and Cuisine. Friday evening will be all you can eat shrimp at the Harbor Club. On Saturday morning, we'll caravan out to a nearby range, Davis Farm Quail Preserve, for some clay shooting, followed by a late lunch in Beaufort. We'll head back to River Dunes in the afternoon and, later in the evening, enjoy a fabulous special dinner prepared by Chef Robert and crew. It will be an unforgettable day, so don't miss out on the chance to enjoy our Eastern NC hospitality. Call 800-675-9565 for information and cottage reservations.

Ringing in 2012 at the Harbor Club
River Dunes Harbor Club members and guests rang in the New Year with a truly unforgettable evening at the Harbor Club. Chef Robert and crew prepared a fabulous five course dinner that included shrimp bisque, Angus filets and lobster tails, and creme brulee with chocolate truffles. After dinner, the Risse Band from Raleigh got everyone out on the dance floor as they played some great Motown and beach music.
One of the highlights of the evening was the ball drop from the top of the new Harbor Club flagpole. JC, Director of Marina Operations, created a beautiful new custom designed ball for this year's festivities. The ball drop was such a hit that it was lowered twice that evening - once for those who couldn't stay up til midnight, and a second time for the true arrival of the New Year. It was a great night and wonderful celebration of the arrival of 2012!

The Spirit of Christmas
The sights and sounds of the holidays are all around us at River Dunes this weekend. The ponies are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Santa (maybe a carrot cake?), the Harbor Club tree is trimmed, the wreaths are up on the front door, and the gingerbread replica of the main entrance barn, caretaker's cottage and boathouse are under construction.
Tomorrow, we'll raise the flag on the new flagpole at 1:00 and celebrate with spiked eggnog and cider. This weekend is also Spirit of Christmas in the village of Oriental, so, if you're feeling in need of some Christmas cheer - River Dunes is the place to be!

Raising the Flagpole
How many good men does it take to raise a flagpole? Just enough, it seems. Sunday morning at River Dunes, the crew was hard at work putting up the new marina flagpole. With the help of some equipment and alot of sweat equity, the flagpole is now in place and ready for the inaugural raising of the flags. Join us this Saturday, December 10 at 1:00 for the raising of the flags and some light refreshments on the Harbor Club front porch.
The following photos document the hard work involved in getting the flagpole up and straight. Special thanks to property owners, Rusty and Steve Ura, for sharing their photos of the flagpole installation.

River Dunes Gets #1 Ranking from Active Captain
Active Captain.com tracks over 30,000 marinas worldwide, providing information and reviews. Among marinas with over 20 reviews, River Dunes ranked third in the world; and among marinas with over 30 reviews, River Dunes ranks FIRST in the world!
As reported by Jeff and Karen Siegel of ActiveCaptain.com, "this is quite an accomplishment. It demonstrates extreme consistency of quality over a large number of boaters...There are only 12 marinas that have more reviews than River Dunes and none of them rate as highly." We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
Thanks to the many boaters who have visited and reviewed River Dunes! We hope you'll come back soon, and we look forward to continuing to exceed your expectations in all areas of marina operations.

Thanksgiving Weekend at River Dunes!
Thanksgiving Weekend is always a good time at River Dunes. Lots of folks are here with family and friends for the holiday weekend. The celebration kicks off on Friday with the annual Tired of Turkey dinner featuring Angus prime rib with stuffed potatoes, Caesar salad, and homemade dessert. On Saturday morning, we'll have a Christmas ball workshop downstairs at the Harbor Club. Participants will make the lighted balls that hang from trees around the harbor during the holiday season. No special skills are required! All day long, the Harbor Club will have fresh cookies and hot cider, along with football on the tv, board games and billiards. Saturday dinner will be a family style buffet consisting of Chef Robert's chili, salad bar and cornbread.

Photos from Homecoming Weekend
Fifty-one property owners gathered last weekend for a truly special fifth-annual Homecoming Weekend. On Friday, following a private cocktail reception for the owners, everyone enjoyed dinner from Chef Robert's new fall menu. On Saturday, after the annual POA meeting, owners, club members and friends enjoyed a house-warming party at the Ura Residence. The Uras treated everyone to a tour of their Mike Maher home and Chef Robert's Clam Chowder (delicious), delicatessen sandwiches, sweet tea and homemade cookies for dessert. Throughout the community, model homes were open for tours and "idea-gathering". In the afternoon, property owners got to choose between our trout-fishing competition, kayaking, or a guided eco-tour onboard the Miss Grace. Afterwards, Watermark Homes hosted a wine-and-cheese hour at a private home overlooking the Sound before everyone headed to the oyster roast by the Harbor!

Sailing Magazine names Top Vacation Destinations for Boaters
River Dunes was selected as one of the top ten destinations worldwide for land-based sailing vacations.
The community was selected because it offers the best of both worlds - "world-class big-water sailing" with phenomenal onshore accommodations in the heart of a village filled with other boaters. Sound like a boater's paradise to you?
Read the article here. A big thanks to boater-centric Sailing magazine for the recognition. If you haven't visited River Dunes, this Fall is a great time to find out why Sailing Magazine loves us! (800) 975-9565 for more information or to book your visit.

Lakehouse is a Beautiful Backdrop for an Event
The Lakehouse at River Dunes was the perfect setting for a recent outdoor rehearsal dinner. Guests gathered to enjoy the beautiful sunset while sampling Chef Robert's steamed oysters, served on our unique oyster tables.
A Low Country Boil, featuring shrimp, potatoes, corn and sausage was the main course, with key lime and Snickers cheesecakes for dessert. Later in the evening, toasts around the bonfire honored the bride and groom. Perfect weather, great food and a beautiful location made this evening truly unforgettable.

Our Newest Craft Beer - Just Right for Fall!
YUM! As part of our on-going effort to provide River Dunes Harbor Club guests and members with some of the finest local craft beers, we've snagged one of the most popular and hard-to-find fall ales. We're proud to introduce Dogfish Punkin Ale to our line up. Tommy, Jared and Linda invite members to stop by for a sample. It's great with chef's new butcher block menu selections!
